Custom Made Ocular Prosthesis Workshop
A Workshop on “Custom Made Ocular Prosthesis” was held at NEI on 18th & 19th Dec 2017. Renowned Ocularist Mr. Pankaj Kr. Singh, Director at Global Prosthetic Eye Center New Delhi, was Guest of Honour at the ceremony. He spoke on the topic “Custom Made Ocular Prosthesis : My Technique and Experience”.
The Programme started with welcoming the Guest by honorable Ms. Mandakini Panwar, CEO Nirmal Ashram Eye Institute, Rishikesh. The workshop was attended by all the Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and other staff members of NEI. The hands on training on custom made prosthesis was supervised by Dr. Bhawna.P. Khurana, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Optom. Shashi Shekhar Singh, Incharge Optometrist at NEI.

Lecture on Importance of Vision Screening Among Children
NIRMAL ASHRAM EYE INSTITUTE (NEI) has taken the initiative to create an awareness, in the society at large, on the importance of VISION SCREENING IN CHILDREN. As part of this initiative, Dr. Mrinal Modhur B., the Anterior Segment and Paediatric Ophthalmology consultant at NEI delivered a lecture at Nirmal Ashram Deepmala Pagarani Public School (NDS) on 07.10.2017 on the occasion of the school’s Parent Teacher Meeting.
The lecture began by an explanation of the anatomy of the eye, visual development of the eye and the concept of visual acuity followed by an enumeration of the key environmental factors that give rise to visual disorders among children. This was followed by a detailed insight to the audience on the various refractive errors, namely, Myopia, Hyperopia and Astigmatism. Other ophthalmic disorders like squint and Amblyopia (lazy eye) were also delved upon.
In the second part of the lecture, the presentation was about the role of teachers in discovering vision problems in students early on. Herein, the imperative for teachers to pay attention to various behaviours among students which are indicative of vision problems were highlighted. The benefit of the same would be two-pronged; one that the problem is diagnosed early on and second that because of early detection and intervention, students would not fall behind in their studies, considering the fact that as much as 80% learning is visual.
In the last part of the lecture, various personality issues and visual difficulties afflicting students today due to an indiscriminate use of smart phones were mentioned.
The event was attended by Ms. Mandakini Pawar, CEO, NEI along with a few Managers from the Institute, namely Mr. Pradeep Singh, Senior Manager, HR, Mr. Sanjay Barthwal, Head, Community Outreach Department, Mr. Sanjay Chhokra, Head, IT, Mr. Pratish Srivastav, Senior Manager, Liaison, Mr. Shashi Shekhar Singh, Head, Diagnostic Optometry and Mr. Mukesh Dhyani, Assistant Manager, Quality and Accounts.
NEI Employees Felicitation Program For Completing 1,00,000 Surgeries
3rd June, 2017 marked a golden moment in the history of Nirmal Ashram Eye Institute (NEI), Rishikesh. To commemorate the landmark achievement of NEI having conducted 1,00,000 surgeries, a felicitation programme was organized by the Institute Management to appreciate the contribution of its employees.
Organized in the central lounge of the Institute, the programme was presided over by His Holiness Mahant Ram Singh Ji Maharaj, the spiritual head of Nirmal Ashram, Rishikesh, Sant Baba Jodh Singh Ji Maharaj, Secretary General of Nirmal Ashram, Rishikesh and Mr. Chandru Kewalramani, benefactor of NEI, since its inception in 2005.
The felicitation programme began with an opening speech by Ms. Mandakini Pawar, Chief Executive Officer, NEI in which she congratulated all employees for their hard work and dedication to the Institute. She further exhorted all employees to continue working with commitment towards achieving the Institute’s vision to serve the underprivileged, with compassion, curing avoidable blindness and making their lives better.
Next, students from Nirmal Ashram Gyan Daan Academy (NGA), Rishikesh gave a soulful rendition of the Shabad Gurbani. This was followed by employees’ felicitation by His Holiness Mahant Ram Singh Ji Maharaj, Sant Baba Jodh Singh Ji Maharaj and Mr. Chandru Kewalramani. All employees received Maharaj Ji’s blessings and Certificates of Appreciation for their dedication and commitment to the Institute’s cause.
Visit of NEI’s CEO to Amara Raja for HR Excellence Award Assessment
Ms. Mandakini Pawar, CEO, NEI was invited, under the aegis of CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence, to assess the Amara Raja Group (Amaron) for excellence in HR.
The CII-EXIM Bank Award for Business Excellence, instituted in 1994 is the most prestigious award in India for excellence that an Indian company can aspire for.
The evaluation for the award is based on a comprehensive model, which is based on the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) model, and focuses on an Organization’s practices and performance under nine different criteria (Leadership, People, Strategy, Partnerships & Resources, Processes, Products & Services, People Results, Customer Results, Society Results and Overall Business Results).
To be an Award winner, a company must demonstrate excellence in results with respect to its various stakeholders (customers, employees, society and share holders) through excellence in processes and people.
Ms. Pawar, upon her return from the assessment assignment, informed the managers of her successful undertaking. At NEI, it is indeed a matter of great honour for all of us that our CEO is a sought after expert for assessing companies in their claim to the most prestigious award for Business Excellence in the country.
Camp Conducted by NEI Team at the Sharp Memorial Blind School
Following our MISSION STATEMENT – “Transforming Patients’ lives by providing Best Eye Care Services”, Nirmal Ashram Eye Institute (NEI) team under the leadership of our CEO, visited Sharp Memorial Institution, the Sharp Memorial School for the Blind, on 2nd and 3rd September, 2016. The team comprising Ophthalmologists, an Optometrist and staff from the Community Outreach department conducted an eye screening camp for the students. Based on requirement of individual students, the low vision devices, spectacles and medicines were given.

Visit of Shri Shubha Vilas Prabhu
Noted motivational and spiritual speaker and accomplished author of 5 popular books including Ramayana: The Game of Life series, Shri Shubha Vilas Prabhu, visited NEI 9Nirmal Eye Institute) on 13.07.2016 to deliver a lecture on the impact of worries and the ensuing tensions in human life. He talked at length about possessions and social comparison as being the foremost antecedents to human tension. This, according to the speaker, is the reason why human life comes under the control of others.
Shri Prabhu further stated that to calm the mind and become detached from the urge to possess one has to look at each instance in life with equanimity. Regular meditation and listening to Satsang were conveyed by the speaker as the best ways to calm the mind and develop a higher perspective, bereft from the urge to possess and compare socially. Gradually, according to Shri Prabhu, the path would lead to ever increasing peace.
After the lecture, the CEO and managers interacted with Shri Shubha Vilas Prabhu on various aspects pertaining to various aspects of stress and stress busters.
